Big Changes at APHE!

logoThank you for joining an American Heart Association® class with APHE!

APHE and AHA have made some pretty significant changes in class sign in and exams recently, so please read on to learn more.

When AHA updated the 2020 Guidelines for CPR & ECC in October, it was announced that written exams in the Instructor-Let Training (ILT) were now going to be online exams. With this change, APHE has also changed how participants sign into classes.

You should prepare for the course by reviewing and understanding the information in your manual.

You can also review the Course Participant Registration prior to the class. You will be completing this registration, which includes a Release and COVID-19 Screen, when you arrive at the class on your personal Internet-enabled device.

ACLS & PALS Participants: Please complete the required Self-Assessment prior to your course. Please bring your completion certificate with you to the class.

ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment

PALS Precourse Self-Assessment

Please review the manual before coming to the course so that you learn more and are more comfortable with the course. Please bring the manual to your course. AHA requires that each participant have access to the manual. You will be able to refer to it during the exam. Your instructor may have extra manuals available for purchase at the course for exact cash. Instructors do not have change. Personal checks are not accepted.

What to Wear

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will be practicing skills that require working on your hands and knees, bending, standing, and lifting.

Please plan to arrive a few minutes prior to the scheduled start time to complete registration. Most courses begin on time. It will be difficult for late students to catch up once the course has started. Any participant who arrives 15 minutes or more after the scheduled start time will not be allowed to participate and will forfeit course fees, necessitating additional registration and fees.

Please Bring an Internet-Enabled Device

Please bring an Internet-enabled device, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop computer with you to class. You will use the device to complete registration. You will also use the device to complete your course exam near the end of your class.

Arrival Information

When you arrive at your class, you will find a sign posted by your instructor that provides information necessary to complete the Course Participant Registration. Please complete this registration on your Internet-enabled device. After you submit the registration, your instructor will review your registration and invite you into the classroom.

You must attend and participate in the entire course in order to obtain your certification.

If you have physical conditions that might prevent you from participating in the course, please tell your instructor when you arrive for the course. Your instructor will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.

Certification Card

All American Heart Association certifications are now electronic cards called eCards. For more information on eCard, please visit

Due to COVID-19, you will complete a health screen prior, which includes a temperature check, to enter the classroom for your course. Each participant and instructor must wear a face cover while in the classroom. If you have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, please call us to reschedule.

Please review your class and instructor: Course Evaluation. We appreciate your feedback!

We look forward to seeing you at your course!

Adam was a great teacher. It was nice to have a little (lot) of humor involved while also getting actual facts. I have been certified many times since 2001, and this was my best class. I plan on taking more classes while trying to get others to as well. I also want my department to go with APHE.
- EMT, BLS for Healthcare Providers participant

Instructors were able to organize a new location in a timely manner and communicated changes in course well [following course cancellation due to H1N1 concerns at a location]. Hard class but instructor made it easy to understand. Thanks!
